Hi Thomas,

The cheapest way to play a bit with plone is installing Plone on your own
computer, you have installers for windows, linux and mac that take about 10
min to install and they are easy to install. Check them at
http://plone.org/products/plone

After installing Plone you can read the documentation and foruns, and if you
have money you can attend to Plone events and training that are announced on
plone.org
