[Setup] Viewing Plone after installing: defunct URL?

Hi, 

The 'View Plone' button on the Plone Controller fails to display the welcome
page after installation. This URL seems to be defunct:

http://localhost/

I've also tried the following URL:

http://localhost::8080/manage

as indicated on Installing Plone: Chapter 2
(http://docs.neuroinf.de/PloneBook/ch2.rst)

I'm trying to set up Plone 2.5.2 on Window XP and would be very grateful for
any advice.
