[Setup] Upgrade to Plone 3.0 - can't log in

Currently running Plone 2.5.1 on OS X 10.4.9

I took the following steps:
  * stopped my instance
  * ran the Plone 3.0 OS X Installer
  * Copied the 2.5.1 Data.fs to the 3.0 Instance/var directory
  * started the 3.0 Instance
  * tried to log in to http://mysite:8080/manage

When i try to use the admin password as specified in adminPassword.txt (yes,
i'm looking at the password file in the 3.0 installation), i cannot log in
... i cannot log in with the old admin password either.  I've done cut/paste
of the password, so i'm sure that i'm typing it correctly.

I get errors in the log if i try to access the site directly, but i assume
that's because i haven't finished the upgrade process.

When trying to log in to the Management Interface, there are no log errors
whatsoever.

Any ideas what might be happening?
