Hello,
   We use Debian Sarge. It works fine. Just ignore the packages (they're 
old) and build your own Zope and Plone from source. Its easy, and 
well-documented. That gives you more flexibility anyway.
    I run Ubuntu at home, and while that is good too , some people might 
say Ubuntu is a little too bleeding-edge for a production environment. 
Probably opinions vary on that.......
