Hi!

I've just been at the green BOF and it was suggested that we all
subscribe to this list and maybe comment about projects as they come
up.

I didn't mention it in the BOF because it isn't green per se, but I am
a member of Fundación Vía Libre (an Argentine NGO that aims to help
society adopt information technology in such a fashion that core
values such as freedom, equality, independence and democracy don't
become collateral damage of the modernist frenzy). We are currently
working on the subject of electronic voting, trying to point out how
it is not the solution to everything that people are trying to make it
out to be, and along the lines of that our president (Federico Heinz)
wrote

http://www.vialibre.org.ar/2007/09/27/mejorando-la-confianza-en-el-escrutinio/

and we're trying to build a system that does exactly what he proposes
there; the specs are further built out

http://wikis.busaniche.org.ar/index.php/Especificaciones_de_AGUA

unfortunately it is still in Spanish; if there is interest in this I
could translate it into something similar to English.

The gist of the proposal is to build a web site to provide public
access to the raw data used to count the votes, so Concerned Citizens
(TM) can check the results for themselves.

Cheers,
