plone 2.5 website dissapointingly slow

Hello All,

 

I'm placing this question here wondering if others have taken specific
steps I can follow to speed up our website: www.iicd.org
<http://www.iicd.org/> .

 

I've had complaints about the speed and when measuring it here
http://www.vertain.com <http://www.vertain.com/>  the result is
disconcerting, 8.36 seconds to load the homepage :<... and this when an
important part of our target group uses dial-up from Africa and Latin
America! 

 

The total size of the homepage, scripts and stylesheets included is 518
kb uncompressed. 

 

Suggestions for improvements are very welcome!
