Bristol has sooo many pubs it would be very hard to recommend an 'official' one. 

There is a a good Jazz pub called The Old Duke on King St, with live jazz. Not that much room inside so may be sat outside which might be a bit chilly. Opposite it is The Llandoger Trow pub which dates from 1664. 

There is also The Watershed which is a media and arts bar on the waterfront. It does good, simple food and good beers and ciders. Quite good for groups as a lot of space inside and quiet enough to talk to people.
